Ontario Auto Insurance Reform - September 1, 2010
After several years of intensive review, the Government of Ontario has made changes to the Ontario Auto Insurance Policy.  These changes are primarily to the Accident Benefits portion of the policy.  The intent of the changes is to control the increasing auto insurance premiums made necessary by the costs of claims under the current system (prior to September 1, 2010).

Until the first time your policy renews after September 1, 2010, you will receive the same limits of coverage as you have on your policy currently.  Upon renewal, you will need to choose the coverage and limits that you require.

If you wish, you may opt to switch to the new benefits at any time after September 1, 2010 and before your policy renewal.  Most companies will allow you to cancel your existing policy without penalty and move to a new policy with them.  Insurance premiums have increased though, so you would be subject to the new higher rates on your replacement policy.

If you have children, if you care for someone primarily (such as a disabled relative) at home, if you earn over $571 gross salary per week, if you are self employed, or if you don't have any additional medical insurance (such as a group plan through your work), you should pay particular attention to these changes.  There are items that are important for every insured, so please let us help you figure it all out.
